Who We Are

Hope

The church at Cleveleys was a strategic initiative of local Baptists under the banner of the then “Fylde Coast Baptist Union” in response to the needs of the area.

In December 1929, 22 people met in the Savoy Café in Cleveleys and resolved to begin services on January 5th 1930.

By March 1930 the site of the present church building was purchased.

The first formal church meeting was convened on 17th November 1930, where seven deacons were elected. December that year saw the calling of the first Lay pastor.

The new school chapel opened In November 1934, and the first baptism took place in January 1935.

The church’s first full time worker, a deaconess sister Myrtle, was called in 1937.

The building remained essentially the same with only the addition of an Army hut in 1964 to house the Sunday School, but by the late 1980 the space was proving inadequate. In 1989 -90 the present sanctuary, able to seat 400, the suite of ancillary rooms and the car park area was added.

The church is situated in a rapidly developing area designated Thornton,-Cleveleys, and Poulton le Fylde and draws its membership from along the North Fylde coast and inland.

The church continues to try and be responsive to the needs of the area.

Locally we are heavily involved with Trinity, the Hospice in the Fylde and the Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Nationally the church has strong links with the Baptist Union of Great Britain.

Globally the church is actively involved with the Baptist Missionary Society, with our link missionary Dan Pratt.

We also have involvement with the hospital in Vom, Nigeria.
